I am starting an in home childcare. I have had some interesting reactions from people I have told. Things like "oh, I couldn't do it!" or "thats hard work!" but I am given it a go!!! I have advertised on ksl and craigslist but could use other advertising ideas and advice on running a daycare. anyone?.....

Good for you! your going to be great!
no advice really...don't think you need it! Take a picture of that room and your details and post it on shopping mall boards & school boards telling them how many spaces you have etc.

Best of luck!! If i had the space i'd do it too.. xx

Yea, I'll call you crazy, but only because I would go NUTS! How many kids are you looking for and for what hours?

I think it is a great idea. I actually watch my friends kids 2-3 days out of the week. I will say, it really takes a strong person to watch someone else's kid. I have my good days and bad days. It is a good way to stay in your home and still work. I am only doing it until june. My stress levels have shot through the roof since I started. It has been the hardest job I have ever had. Having said that, I think it totally depends on the personality of the daycare provider. I am sure you will do well. I don't mind watching other people's children. I actually love kids. I just don't like doing it as a job. Good luck!

Anna - the room looks great! I don't think that you are crazy; I think that you are a strong woman! You will do fine, and I just know that it will work out!

Anna, a little advice, as I have watched one extra child in my home at a time- tell the parents you will have a two week period where you see if things will work out for everyone. Sometimes you find that personalities don't mix with your kids, or even that you don't want some children influencing your family. If you give them info up front it's much easier to back out of a job that may be too tough. I think you will be great and you will really like this new job. Plus the kids that get to come to your home will be so lucky!

Good on ya for doing this! I'm sure you'll be awesome at it. Have you tried placing ads in those weekly mailers and in the newspaper classifieds? How about KSL (I don't know if that kind of thing goes on KSL, but worth looking into). Good luck!

I'd also be happy to discuss what went down at my preschool/child care center (policies for everything, some legal issues, health code stuff, etc.) - just let me know if there's anything you need to know. Oh, and check out the NAEYC (I think it's www.naeyc.org) website for a bunch of great articles related to early childhood education.
